The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 这哪里是一部电影，简直就是一颗火种。被人家操纵还自以为是正义，大众沦为棋子，情绪被政治利用，容易被煽动的人群只顾闷头前行，却从不停下来思考。影片抽丝剥茧还原真相，剧情一波三折，高潮迭起，看的酣畅淋漓。不要总渴望别人恩赐，自己起来做舵手吧！
震撼！！真震撼！！十分震撼！！！一个中国人看印度电影痛哭流涕感慨万千！不到三个小时的电影里包裹的信息量太大了，完全可以拍一个电视剧的量！好几段镜头反复观看！特别是前20分钟那位女学生带着其他同学来到甘地广场抗议，穿插了老师生前的授课真是看得我头皮发麻汗毛直立！前两年我对韩国电影刮目相看，这两年我又对印度电影刮目相看！在中国媒体的报道下印度脏乱差qj大国，但是为什么人家呈现出来的影视作品如此的高质量！再看看近几年国内电影除了抗战片我想起来的依旧是我不是药神！哎！哎！哎！
希望国内有一天也能拍出这样畅所欲言的电影。

将近3个小时，真的太长太长了。不得不说印度真的很敢拍啊，他们难道没有那种类似广电总局的存在吗？
纯粹纯心纯情，接纳所有情绪，接纳世界，接纳自己。故事一，工作上那卑微的自我表现，故事二，对朋友所拥有能力的羡慕… 催泪片尾曲奏响，莫名很悲伤，也许是因为可以悲伤的东西太多了。短短的好电影。
一般，比较超现实，可能是翻译问题，我还是搞不懂副局长最后为啥要自爆，自爆了也没有把幕后操纵者揪出来啊？里面人物的行为缺乏充足的动机，很情绪化。配乐和台词不错，煽动性很强，印象最深的是“让提问题的人沉默，给讨论的人戴上手铐”

反转再反转，最近比较喜欢的片子了。而且印度经济没有限制印度的电影发展。
歧视女性、操弄舆论，印度社会的问题很多，但至少法律还是管用的。
同热评，这部剧包含了如此多的现实话题，让我惊讶，连印度片都这么敢拍了……真的厉害

看了一半，有个疑问，为啥这片能讨论点评，而1987全网封禁？高度怀疑这片导演看了1987才来的灵感。
案中案，局中局，套中套。法庭上的反转，原来所谓的正义不过一场作秀！所谓的英雄不过是政治筹码！眼见一定为实吗？大众舆论一定是对的吗？一个个屏幕背后是人是鬼又有谁知，不过是愚人愚己，纵横之术罢了。
千万不要在律师法庭陈词的时候退出，非常值得五星
以戏论戏，并没有拍得很好。后面的连串反转，也过于表面化。至于高分，不言而喻了。
前一个半小时不懂为啥8.6，后一个半小时这8.6打的值👏🏻
格调很差…转折轻率 煽情过度 博人眼球 浪费了生命中1个小时20分钟 :（
名过其实。一群律师和法官连基本的法律训练都没有受过。
