The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 与一般情爱电影不同的是，本片聚焦做爱前的部分，它甚至都不仅是前戏，而是两个要达成“精神性交”一致的人，他们在身体和精神上的磨合过程，剧作在这点上下了大功夫。艾玛汤普森的角色目的只想做爱，而男主角只想“卖感情”（在我看来这份工作十分有趣），身体上当然也有，但我认为他的终极目的是以此达成精神上的性愉悦。两人磨合的过程，也是彼此敞开心扉、互相了解的过程，打开心结才能身心结合，或许，这才是人和人之间相处最难达成的一致吧，如今的我们仿佛只活在对方的平行时空。
最后两个人的癫狂源于放下一切，坦诚相对让彼此心灵靠近，真心蛮感人的。为女主的勇敢鼓掌，人就应该去做自己喜欢的事，哪怕事关禁忌，以不伤害他们为前提即可，何必在乎别人的看法
空气甚好天空湛蓝。
7/10 演技精湛，简单的小故事和人物背后的故事，处理得张弛有度，有很多十分生活气息的笑点，关于人的身体、感情、道德的讨论也有趣，两代人几十年前后观念的变化和对比也很有趣
这部应该是今年以来最喜欢的电影了！说是女性觉醒有点点局限 其实更像是两个陌生人之间的phase link且互相治愈的过程。男主真的好可爱 声音也令人安静 又很耐心地等待与倾听 去引导去缓释去深入都是水到渠成 更重要的是他让女主发现直面自身的欲望是不该成为羞耻的事情 去欣赏自己取悦自己也没有错。女主恰好是母亲 因而以母亲身份的共情能够让男主直面自己与他母亲和家人的关系 认可自己的能力和职业。这种陌生人之间互相短暂令对方更完整地步入next stage真是我最喜欢的感情之一了！

还是那个永恒的难题：轻与重，你到底渴望怎样的人生？太重了当然想扔掉一切规则轻盈的飞上天，过一过云上的日子，太轻了又希望有稳稳的幸福，让脚步能踏实的走在大地上。于是很多关系，很多选择，就在生命里如钟摆晃来晃去，若即若离。
两位主演的表演也很精彩。Emma的眼神，肢体动作等等把角色的情绪展现得细腻至极，而leo从一开始的神秘到后面的情绪暴发过渡也很自然。
「享受身体是天赋人权」的主题很有意思，遗憾的是，落脚点又是正确但无聊的「家庭」，所以从本质上，这并不是一部勇敢的电影。
