The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 看不懂但大受震撼。好像从一个很长的梦里醒来，又好像没醒。
啊，前面看的好甜，两个如此有话聊的人谈恋爱真是舒服极了～像是日记的形式一样按照时间阶段同时展示男女主各自的心里变化～恋爱和结婚是不同的～两人的感情像流水账一样的呈现给我，经历了相遇相恋与错过～就好像自己也谈了一场短短的恋爱～最后美丽的他里面小变态那对初恋相遇相爱完全就是俩人的复刻～难过极了～街景地图记录了男主过去一人再到结尾过去的两人～心酸又难过又甜蜜舒服～
不愧是坂元，这么多俗套的桥段依然敢用，而且还用得很好，小道理讲得头头是道，太会玩细节了。相识相恋那段，文艺青年们看得拍大腿笑出眼泪吧。坂元说：“我的电影不是写给某一类人的，是写给某一个人的。”我就是他的某一个人，太吃他这套了，把我给看得哭抽了。看到押井守、遇到讨厌的上司刁难时的劝慰（后来再用一次时真扎心）。虽然感慨《短剧！》之后他们终于谈恋爱了，但是自始至终都觉得这两人不会走到结束。后来C说，因为村花的眼神和心态没有变化，从不爱到热恋之间看不到转变，所以会让人有他们不cp的感觉。但最后那场苏打哭得太有层次感了，而且两人也哭出了各自的立场和性格，两人演技都非常可以了。两人交叠的视角变化，共同述说同一段经历或者想法，交替上升的架构真是很好啊。
很抱歉 这是个必要的结局 给前面所有的犹豫与藕断丝连还有暧昧托底 但这样带来的就是臃肿与寡淡 很必要的结局 但作为一部电影本身 实在是一般般。它牺牲掉了核心魅力画上一个句号也是不易而为之吧。
一星给宇多田光，一星勉强给个情怀分吧……剧情就不说了，就当看了个鬼畜，怎么动作场面也这么敷衍了，好多地方还直接套用前作的原画，拖了这么久还这么偷懒真的好么……童年神作结尾一个比一个拉跨，哎
看之前恨它为什么一直延期，看完恨它为什么不一直延期
人被抛弃到世界上，即使不存在意义，被附加了大他者的意义，依然是自由的。
EVA看着我的人生走过了快30年的时间，此刻它终于要和我永别了，我真的要跟庵野秀明深深地鞠一躬，郑重地说上一句谢谢。这些年里，EVA就像父母之外的第三个陪伴者，甚至在我最困窘的今天，它用最温柔的方式给了我最后的教导，谢谢你，我会做一个好的大人。
一蹴而就的完全合拍，真的只是一种幻象，感情说到底要靠持续不断的努力经营。
那年小学还是初中在外婆家，坐在电视前看到了这部国产配音的Eva，目瞪口呆。

恭喜庵野秀明，你就像结局的真嗣，变成了一个和所有大人一样的无聊大人。如果这就是长大成人，那可真是糟糕透顶。

痞子尽可以这样拍，但我不接受结局。没人配得上明日香
心有灵犀使人迷恋，所以冗长繁复的沟通令人退缩疲惫。
尤其是碇司令的补完剧情，当初年少懵懂地接触到EVA的我们如今也早已中年，经历足够多有心无力求而不得，对此段落颇有感触。关于Evangelion的故事，在我们的青春结束多年后，也终于结束了。
