The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 桑德拉布洛克的表演无可挑剔，甚至比今届入围奥斯卡影后的多数人演的更好，真相揭开的时候，阴差阳错之下Ruth为妹妹付出的一生的代价让人心疼。片子探讨了有犯罪前科，尤其是杀人案底（何况是杀警察）的刑满释放人员在底层顶着社会刻板印象的标签寸步难行的生活困境，以及附着在其上的世态炎凉。红脖、白左再到少数族裔，不同的阶层对待底层投射着各自的成见，但是讽刺的是，假若女主并非被洗白的那样无辜，他们的成见难道不也是一种自我保护或是追求结果正义的方式吗？只能说，在美国这样族群对立日益激化的现实之下，人们为了安全，都会越发极端和敏感，不是局中人，并不能简单地说是对是错。
太理解她的苦闷了，以前有一度觉的是会这样，但是爱是世间万物的良药，可以让人获得救赎。
整个情节确实是英剧的路子，结尾反转挺意外，但是感觉有点俗，呵呵，结尾也是英剧式的克制。能看得进去。不过现在看西式的普世价值观，总觉得有点虚伪，妹妹才五岁，其实没必要顶罪，对于孩子心理来讲顶不顶罪，没什么区别，她要不记得，不顶罪也没影响，她要记得，顶罪又有什么用，平白分离这么多年，不好意思，剧透了。
看了一半多了，看不下去了，一眼看到头的剧情。演员演技没的说，是因为东城梦魇火了也想来一波吗，但是拍的真的太无聊了。豆瓣分太虚高了。
是那种“说好不好说坏不坏让人没有评价欲望”的片子。话说基努当年是爱着（过）桑姐吧？
明明不是一个无病呻吟的故事，但是拍出来的感觉各方面都好无病呻吟啊……
表演状态很好，但是导演的剪辑能力、拍摄能力、还有讲故事的能力都just so so
五岁妹妹失手杀死警察，姐姐代其做了20年牢。出狱后，又是工友的追求，又是警察两个儿子伺机报复，自己还要寻找失散的妹妹。。。布洛克的演技大涨啊，把一个失意落魄的中年女性塑造的入木三分。
故事很简单。但女主演技太好了。看到最后情感共鸣催人泪下。
看女主给养父母发火 真是无语。妹妹啊 这又是谁的错的？兄弟俩明显哥哥帅 果然戏份多些
我喜欢这种美国底层人民的生活琐碎，有种夹缝中生存的救赎感。
桑德拉好会挑剧本，演的真的很好，有人太挑剔了，我觉得特别好…这种感觉真的太难了
