The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 印度电影传统而娴熟的叙事方式，作为电影本身来讲，称不上极其优秀，IMDB9.4也是虚高，但它贵在真实，贵在毫不遮掩地袒露自己丑陋的伤疤，最大程度地印证了艺术来源于生活这句话。相信只要历史是向前发展的，这个国家最终将消灭种姓制度。
虽然有很多程式化的印度电影镜头，但基于真实事件的扎实剧本和合理的表演，给了电影非常棒的观感。即使可以猜到其中角色的遭遇，也会好奇会如何推进。
根据真实事件改编的电影总是更令人动容，很多法律的颁布背后都有为此付出代价的人。还好虽然他死了，但是正义还在，他的妻子和孩子得到了很好的安置。那个人权律师也真好，6年处理了96000个人权案件。但是印度电影每次时长都好长，而且看的翻译版也是好奇怪，很多翻译都不通顺。
感觉是八十年代那种叙事风格，正派反派的理想主义。

振聋发聩的真实事件改编，当执法者变成犯罪者，这起印度的“秋菊打官司”的绝望在仿佛完全不现实但却确确实实发生了的理想主义微光中获得了公正。不要因为它是印度电影就小看它，用眼睛去确认吧。
印度版《辩护人》，居然还冲进了IMDB top 250…
音乐铛铛铛的往观众脸上砸，其实是降低电影现实主义力度的。

人物塑造和台词上都太满了，显得浅白，叙事节奏和角度还不错，一环扣一环，但是突然爆出的BGM还是让人不适应

为本片所折射出的良心起立致敬！种姓制度、贫富悬殊、妇女地位低下、卫生条件落后、宗教迷信……使我依然不认为印度是文明的现代化国家，但并不能否认这个国家是完全没有希望的，是不会进步的，而进步不能指望TZ的自我优化，进步是每一个人的一小步，从一点点的努力争取而来，内部监督往往无效无力，外部监督才是正确之路。本片的主角律师是一位包青天式人物，将矛头直指暴力机器之一the police，凭坚毅与正义将公道还之于民，这恰恰是底层民众最希望看到的，印度拍出来了并展现出来了……反观我们，或许可能永远也拍不出来了吧，是因为不公不存在吗，未必
印度虽然是个槽点满满的国家，但印度的电影人敢于直视他们社会中的污点和弊病，敢于通过影视化来引起社会重视，这一点我们任重而道远。片子的情节设定以及律师的抽丝剥茧都非常精密，法庭戏也比较精彩。只不过本片导演没有《辩护人》的导演宋宇硕那么圆熟的技巧。其实这两部片子有许多相通之处。
类似《辩护人》《熔炉》的作品，这类故事看的太多，现已触动不了我，羡慕印度那边的创作环境
真相大概从警察说出犯人越狱的时候就知道了，但是丝毫不影响观看。
看完本片，不由得对坚持正义的律师心生敬佩。每一个国家，都需要这样的人，为手无寸铁的民众举起对抗部分邪恶公权力的法律武器。
