The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 一眼望得到头的剧情，如果说单纯做成悬疑剧我觉得还不够，可是一部优秀的作品，故事性仅仅是构成分数的一部分。这部电影揭示的主题很好，特别是后半部分，明明知道剧情的走向，可是你作为一个局外人，还是会为这些改变热血沸腾。幡然醒悟的何止是印度，我觉得应该反思的是所有的观影人，我们所在的社会还有多少需要进步的空间，我们为之努力了多少。
讲故事的方式还不错，细节和情感都处理的挺好。
想象出来的场景都拍不好，
播到公交车那一幕的时候，已经猜到了所有剧情。意义还是蛮好的。
对Naina的一句话印象深刻: Do we just deserve a fucking candle march? 当悲剧发生的时候，政府又做了什么呢？不负责的警察，惩罚力度欠缺的法律，对受害者的忽视，只追表面报道误导大众的媒体……
3星，这类社会题材，印度电影跟韩国电影一样，只能拍出来，现实很难解决实际问题，只能自我安慰。
我感觉很屌，为什么豆瓣那么多装B的。这个不给人很多启发？人家可以拍这样的片对zf，我们拍这种能过审？

真的太赞了，意外的惊喜。这部电影能冲奥斯卡么？看了后心脏都疼了。
作为女性太能理解这样的电影的意义（但电影真的拖沓的让人难以忍受了，印度电影特有的那种镜头和剪辑还有配乐真的好烦）片尾最后的三行字真的让人不寒而栗。这就是女性的现实，就像女主对他的律师男友常说的那句话何尝不是说给自己的呢？such a drama queen…但是不用如此极端的方式没有人会听到她的诉求，这就是现实！女性的现实！太草了…看完电影一看时间今天也是一个星期四…fxxk the society
不好男性豆瓣用户在评价这部电影时一副置身事外的轻浮样，完美诠释了电影里主角所描述的那种国民形象，不在你们耳边大吼大叫，你们就只会装聋。中国有多少女性被强奸后无法立案还要被受害者有罪论二次伤害，又有多少已婚女性被“家暴”后无法得到法律保护，还有多少女性被拐卖成为性奴后即使引起舆论也依旧无法被拯救。如果你在看一部电影时，只抱着一副高高在上的态度，那么你是在浪费你的时间，这部电影不是给你这种人看的。
韩片一般黑暗到让人感到绝望，而印度片却总是让人感觉好像还有点希望……
我相信，有时候，我们需要一些走极端的人，因为他们会让那些walk free的人产生惧意。全片的悬疑感营造得很不错，尤其是最后司机的反转，让一切疑点顺理成章，给了女主的动机一个合情合理的解释。
姐姐对妹妹的爱，比很多真正做人父母的，都要深厚。就这么顶缸蹲20年，不是真正的爱，做不出来的。你看看另外那对儿兄弟做得事儿，鲜明对比。这件事儿里，没有人有错，就是一个彻头彻尾的悲剧。唯一应负责任的，就是枪支自由化。演得真好，看得我泪流满面。

结尾剧情很有看头，但看完感觉还是被套路了。。感觉系列化，模板化了。。立意很好，前半部创意不足。。

三星半，社会意义表现强烈。前面有些故弄玄虚了，后面30分钟不错。
