The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 即便未来生物科技再违背人伦，人类渴望永生的欲望也在一直驱动着克隆人技术的到来。说到底，类似的作品想讨论的还是人之存在的意义：是一组独一无二的DNA，一段与周围人重叠的情感与记忆，还是谁的依傍、谁的伴侣。有关克隆人的故事有点老套了，杰克最终会成为卡梅隆生命的延续、身份的窃取者还是另一个独立的个体，我们不得而知。不过能够确定的是，那个分身介入卡梅隆的生活，才让他得以抽离出来认真注视自己已然客体化的生活。那些曾经习以为常的对话、拥抱、亲吻，才变得如此令人难以割舍、万般珍贵。OST加分。
克隆人题材，焦点不是伦理问题，而是生命的延续和人格的交接。
结尾女主向那男主表达爱意那一幕最让我有代入感。

中间有说到之前的病人.... 我突然想到，要是最后发现他老婆也是克隆人就好玩儿了...
软科幻的人文小品，男主演技太好了，虽然Scott博士和莫名的惊悚氛围让我全程悬着心觉得一定有什么惊天大阴谋😂。但事实证明这始终是一部探讨亲情、爱情，生命与死亡的温情脉脉的电影，看完全片之后会感慨swan song这个片名之贴切。
年度遗珠，无论是本片的质量还是阿里的表演，都堪称2021年为数不多的上乘之选，也凸显了学院奖的固步自封和对科幻题材的偏见。它营造了一个轻未来的世界，用一个身患绝症的人选择克隆出几乎和自己一模一样的人，瞒着不知自己即将死去的家人，继续他的陪伴和存在。本质上，它在探讨了临终关怀的自我和解，忒休斯之船那种自我同一性的困惑，也是一个人选择如何有尊严的死去等等情感面的问题，科幻元素是高概念设定的手段，却并非故事的核心动力和主要卖点，甚至于它更像一碗绝症梗的鸡汤，只是因为那种精致的摄影、颇具轻未来风的艺术设计，和阿里细腻熨帖的表演，有一种沁人心脾的味道。
片中用医疗式生命决策合同经期可能的卸去道德的包袱。当然你能感到的是，科学家的功利意愿像针一样戳破生活生命脆弱的气泡。
人之所以区别于动物就在于知伦理明道德 但同时人也是最自私的动物
🍎好喜欢搞这种科技奇观但是故事体量其实一集40分钟美剧就能说明白的温情科幻…男主还是不错但是这个故事明明还是BC当年短片Inseparable 比较好看
对结尾比较失望，我还以为有什么反转，结果就是想单纯的引起思考？问题是片中思考太肤浅，不够深入，披着科幻的剧情片，然而探讨却是隔靴搔痒。

劣：人都能造出来了，病还治不好~亚洲那姐妹，记得挺恶心的，卖丑博眼球~所谓的科学家，一副圣母表情，所作所为也挺逆自然的~
特别"苹果"的一部电影，无论是摄影、画面、场景、道具，甚至是角色，都很有苹果的风格，不过故事本身其实很简单也并无新意。
2022 #04。披着科幻外衣的文艺片。如果你在青年或者中年时生命即将走到尽头，你是否愿意把自己的记忆传输给一个跟自己长得一模一样的克隆人，让他代替你陪伴你的家人和即将出世的孩子活下去，而你一个人孤独的走向人生的尽头？电影给了一个温暖的答案。无论未来的科技有多么发达，都永远无法打败“爱”的力量。阿里的演技很细腻，期待能在奥斯卡有所斩获。奥卡菲娜的戏份不多但是最后在病床上的那场戏还是很打动我。
